To Fall she doth Relinquish

A final heave of green and then she gives in.
Letting her canopy fall to the ground, in favor of sky and barren branches.
She fades with the last wisp of warm air on a breeze that begins to smell like charcoal and woodsmoke.
Her final cries are echoed in the calling crows that feed lazily in our vacant fields.
Gone with the late afternoon sunlight,
chased off by long autumn shadows.

And here is her heir,
a harvest of color, a colorwash of earth.
